Jay-Z Bans “Bitch” From Rhymes
Written by Zoe Humffray on February 9, 2012 – 2:26 pm
Despite having a mother, sister and wife Jay-Z was never aware of the fact that the word bitch was offensive to women.
But all of that is about to change since the arrival of his daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
The one week old baby who made history by becoming the youngest person to make it on the Billboard charts thanks to a featuring on her daddys new dedication song Glory has prompted her papa to take a major decision.
The rapper wrote a heartfelt poem where he explained his change of heart.
Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich,
I didn’t think hard about using the word B—-.
I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it
now with my daughter in this world
I curse those that give it.
I never realized while on the fast track
that I’d give riddance to the word bitch, to leave her innocence in tact.
No man will degrade her, or call her out her name
the women won’t despise her and call her the same.
I know it’s gonna miss me
cuz we been together like Nike Airs and crisp tees
when we all used to hang out front
singing 99 problems but a lady ain’t one.
Excuse me miss, can I be your mister
cuz I can tell the difference from a little girl and a sister,
She never grew up, her father left her alone
I promise not to talk like we used to
until Kingdom Come.
I’m so focused on your future,
The degradation has passed
I wish you wealth, health, and insight
forever young you may pass.
Blue Ivy Carter, my angel.

Homemade food, warm perch at Narrows Crossing
Written by Zoe Humffray on January 21, 2012 – 8:34 amLocated about halfway between New Bedford and the Cape, the scenic local institution — family-owned since it opened in 1986 — is a great meeting place. I’ve had breakfast there with friends many times and always found the food to be homemade and delicious.
So when we were looking for a lunch place recently, it made sense to visit Narrows Crossing.
Although there are a half-dozen sandwiches and burgers, and the same number of salads (ranging from $5 to $15) on the menu, Narrows Crossing is known for its fried seafood. So I ordered the scallop roll, market-priced at $13.99 that day. It came with homemade cole slaw (sweet, crunchy and rave-worthy) and fries.

New location caps Top Hat Burger Palace’s storied history
Written by Zoe Humffray on January 18, 2012 – 10:00 amAs a kid, Frank Younce liked to hop on his skateboard and ride down to the Top Hat Burger Palace whenever he found enough spare change in the seat cushions of the family couch.
“It was an adventure,” he said of the 30-block journey. “I only took it when it could get the money together to buy a chili cheese dog.”
Younce, now 50, kept going to the Top Hat until he couldn’t anymore. That was in February 2010, when, after six decades at Palm and Main streets in downtown Ventura, Top Hat was evicted by the owners of the parking lot on which it sat in an 8-foot by 22-foot shack.
Aside from the boarded-up burger shack, the lot is unoccupied and surrounded by a chain-link fence.

Frankie’s Sammiches Serves Up Happy Food
Written by Zoe Humffray on January 9, 2012 – 10:58 pmProminently posted at Frankie’s Sammiches is a list of promises to customers, starting with a declaration: “We only make happy food.” Happiness, of course, can be defined in many ways. At Frankie’s, it is tasty comfort food at reasonable prices.
Open since last summer, Frankie’s occupies a corner along a strip of popular Irish pubs and sports bars. The ornate tombstones of Calvary Cemetery face the restaurant through the tall plate-glass windows, and the famous retractable roof of Miller Park is visible beyond the tree line. With counter service and only three sit-down tables, the emphasis is on carryouts, though customers in no hurry often eat in. Frankie’s isn’t a slow cooking bistro, but it’s not fast food either. Denise Richards to Charlie Sheen: Give Me the Twins
Written by Zoe Humffray on January 2, 2012 – 8:47 am
Surely most of you have heard by now that former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen is trying his hand at stand-up comedy. Unfortunately, his new career isn’t as successful as he was hoping it would be. According to many recent reports, most of his acts have resulted in several audience members leaving mid-show. Could it be due to his constant bashing of ex-wife Denise Richards? Still, even though Sheen spent a majority of last week insulting her on stage, Denise is trying to stay on good terms with Charlie. She even reportedly offered to take care of Charlie’s twins with Brooke Mueller until Brooke gets her act together. Read full post…
