At the height of the Cold War, the Munich Olympics of 1972 had become an athletic battle for supremacy between the USA and the USSR. The American basketball team had travelled to the games with a record of having never been beaten in the Olympics, with seven gold medals going back as far as 1936. However that was to change in Munich amidst controversial and acrimonious circumstances.

The American domination of amateur basketball had seen them well equipped to annihilate all opposition through qualifying rounds, winning their first seven games at a canter.

Demi Moore Not Allowed to Weigh Herself in Rehab

Demi Moore is reportedly in rehab receiving treatment for both substance absue and anorexia. She is being treated at the same place Lindsay Lohan was treated, the Cirque Lodge in Utah. Eva Mendes and Mary Kate Olsen also checked into the facility at one point. The actress is prohibited to weigh herself and a source told RadarOnline: “It’s common treatment practice at Cirque to not allow patients that are being treated for an eating disorder to see how much they weight when they step on the scale. Remember when we asked ourselves what was wrong with Karl Lagerfeld for supporting and promoting Baptiste Giabiconi’s music (and consequent music videos)? I really thought (hoped is a more accurate description) that der Kaiser had more select tastes when it comes to music.

This barely launched video doesn’t help brushing Lagerfeld’s cult listening preferences. In fact, Jean Roch’s childish tune video suggestively titles “Saint – Tropez” should have more negative impact on Chanel’s head designer’s reputation rather than highlighting his excellent taste. Actually, this song fits right into the Chanel Cruise 2013 picture – I still don’t know if I should laugh or cry!

This 19 year-old is the newest voice to enter the music industry. Many compare the British cutie to Justin Bieber, for his path to stardom and vocal abilities, but Maynard is certainly making waves of his own. The Scorpios debut album is scheduled to release this summer and the EMI artist has already worked with many greats including Ne-Yo and Pharrell Williams.

‘Ganja & Hess’ Blu-ray Review: Artsy Vampire Film Casts a Confounding Spell

First things first, I can almost guarantee youve never seen a film like Bill Gunns 1973 effort Ganja & Hess. Perhaps incorrectly labeled as blaxploitation because of the time period in which it was released, this vampire movie is about as far from something like Blacula as you can possibly get. Kino Lorber, along with the Museum of Modern Art, has restored the film from its abbreviated 78 minutes to the directors 110-minute vision, and in doing so, has presented us with a soulful, difficult film thats more of a loose collection of atmospheric sequences than a 1970s shocker.

SXSW 2012: ‘V/H/S’ Rewinds The Fright & Resurrects Dead Formats

In early to mid 70’s the face of Hollywood was changed forever by a new wave of horror directors. One of these directors was Steven Spielberg who would direct episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, films like Duel and Jaws. Other members of this motley band of friends included George Lucas with his tale of a dystopian future THX-1138, and Brian De Palma with his take on Steven King’s classic, Carrie. Movie making is a collaborative effort and many times these directors collaborated and critiqued each others work.

Fast forward to 2012, where a new wave of horror directors has entered the Hollywood scene.

Hinterland Gastropub as Good as Ever

Hinterland Erie Street Gastropub, an offshoot of the original Hinterland in Green Bay, became Milwaukee’s first gastropub when it opened five years ago. Since then, it has done very well. The interior features an inviting bar and a dining room with spacious seating. Serene décor includes candles and smooth river pebbles on the wooden tables.

The menu stands out, as well. Chef Dan Van Rite has been a James Beard nominee for the last three years. Van Rite is very knowledgeable about current trends, as evidenced by house-made charcuterie and meat exotica like veal brains and veal heart tartare. (If you have your heart set on veal brains, be aware that the menu changes daily.)

Seal a Deal with Stylish Corporate Entertainment

We all know that the current economic downturn is playing havoc with companies and people’s lives. With fierce competition from home and overseas to succeed you have to be at least one step ahead of your competitors. Furthermore you’ll also have to play the game when it comes down to wooing new clients and hanging on to those who may be tempted to turn elsewhere. A very topical subject at present, but let’s be honest are we really surprised? In a nutshell, no we’re not! Treating clients or persuading them to stay loyal or entice them away from your competition is the name of the game for business large and small. It’s a cut-throat world and as the saying goes ‘only the strongest survive’.

But you don’t have to go all out to be nasty or play beyond the boundaries to gain client loyalty or impress new clients. What you do have to do is make sure that they are treated well and their every need catered for. Corporate entertainment has been used for decades as a way to say ‘thank you’, seal a deal or woo prospective clients, furthermore many of the clients will come from around the world so your hospitality really needs to be top notch and make a good impression.

When faced with such a challenge where do you start? I’ve spent hours deciding how to make my company’s name stand head and shoulders over my competitors; should I take them out to dinner? What type of restaurant? Will the food suit their culture? What on earth will I do with them for the rest of the evening? The questions are flooding in but there’s little in the way of positive answers entering my mind.

Having perused the subject for long enough and wasted valuable time my other half suggested an swanky ‘do’; somewhere where the ladies could put on their glad rags and the men wouldn’t be in jeans and a tee-shirt! She assured me it was this type of corporate entertainment that would really be fitting for the occasion.

Oh my, great idea but where on earth do I start? Enter the Internet, where I found a superb entertainment agency and they turned out to be the answer to may prayers. Their expertise in handling corporate events was outstanding, friendly and very useful, especially when I explained I was looking for something dynamic and ‘different’, something that my competitors hadn’t thought of. They recommended ‘singing waiters’ – who stay out of sight during the meal and at an opportune moment burst into song much to the surprise of guests and other hotel waiters! This idea was new to me so I decided to grab the chance to captivate my guests and show them that my company was forward thinking and open to embracing new trends – much better than the somewhat staid idea of a formal diner-dance that I first had in mind!

When you use an agency there is a huge number of different acts and function bands to choose from that will ensure your corporate event goes off without a hitch. An entertainment agency takes all the worry off your shoulders, leaving you to enjoy your own evening, just as it should be.

I did my research before packing and made sure I didn’t look like an outsider (high heels are a complete style no no for the annual music, film, and interactive conference).
